A pail used for drinking water
Currently, there is no running water—2 large pails are filled weekly with water for each of the village’s 44 homes.
Volunteers are currently developing plans and raising funds to hook into a potable water line approximately 1 mile away. The pipeline route has been determined, and the Homes of Hope volunteers are hoping this work will be done during the June 2007 mission.
Other 2007 projects include road improvements, development of fields for agricultural projects, and installing additional fencing around homes and the village.
The Homes of Hope mission aims to create a safe learning environment for the children of San Pablo as well as 300 children in surrounding villages. The goal is to raise funds and—working with village volunteers—to build a new elementary school that will turn a dream into a reality for these children, who are eager to learn.
Phase 1 construction includes building 14 classrooms, bathrooms, administration area, a courtyard, and a playground. Should fundraising efforts allow, Homes of Hope volunteers aspire to break ground for construction in late 2007 or early 2008. Phase 2 construction, which is projected to begin in 2010, will include an auditorium -gymnasium.
